Stanley Social Group
Taking up where they left off in December, there was a good attendance on Tuesday 21 February at the Church. The Group heard a fascinating talk by Gwen Smith about the trip she and husband Ian made to visit their son and his family in Sao Paulo, Brazil over Christmas/New Year.
The Smiths also saw something of Ecuador, Paraguay and Argentina, not forgetting the highlight of a visit to the Galapagos Islands, which were fundamental in Darwin’s work on evolution. (Ian Smith’s account of their lengthy odyssey is featured elsewhere in this edition of The Nine Mile News).
Stanley Social Group notes that the annual cancer fundraiser, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea (ABMT) will next be held on Thursday 24 May – amazing how quickly the years roll around as it seems only a few months ago that the last one was held!
Planning for the 2012 ABMT will begin at the next Social Group meeting on the usual 3rd Tuesday of the month i.e. Tuesday 20 March in the church.
The Social Group hopes Betty O’Neill is feeling better again.
