Stanley Athenaeum Exhibition 2018

STANLEY ATHENAEUM & PUBLIC ROOM NOW SHOWING – Until January 2019

The Friends of Stanley Athenaeum would like to say thank you for the huge support on Saturday 10 March 2018, at the opening of:

Stanley C19th Women
Hearts of Gold – Minds of Mettle –
From Mary Rawes (b1794) to Mariette Craig (b1899)

110 people from near and far attended. The Stanley Hall looked ‘absolutely fabulous’ in suffragette colours and the afternoon tea brought by everyone was delicious. Thank you also for your gold coin donations.  The exhibition itself, opened by Dr Jacqui Durrant & curated by Ali Rowe, has brought rave reviews and was celebrated on the front page of the The Ovens and Murray Advertiser. There have been many visitors since the opening.

The Friends would also like to thank our Stanley Hall Committee for their help in the past 12 months of research for the womens’ stories and photos. For example, a new photocopier was approved for purchase. Bob Malone brought out the sound system and lectern from Beechworth RSL for the opening – and helped with research, as did treasurer Kay Collins. Herman Knopers and Leigh Privett did many odd jobs. Great to have Sharyn Vincent come along on the day.
