SRCI Annual General Meeting
Stanley Rural Community Inc. (SRCI) AGM
– New Members of the Committee
The Annual General Meeting of SRCI was held at the Stanley School on Sunday 18th March 2018.
There was a good turnout for a Sunday afternoon with 20 members showing up.
President Ed Tyrie addressed the meeting thanking the outgoing committee of Helen McIntyre, Kim Thompson, Jacqui Cato, and Graham Oke. Ed mentioned the outstanding work and commitment they had personally and collectively performed in support of the Stanley Community. Jacqui and Graham had indicated they would not be seeking re-election.
Vice-President and Treasurer, Kim Thompson, provided a financial overview for the outgoing year.
All committee positions were then declared vacant and Jamie Kronborg chaired the election of the new committee.
Ed Tyrie was re-elected President, Kim Thompson, Vice-President and Treasurer, Helen McIntyre, Secretary, Anni Turnbull and Paul Smith were elected Committee Members. Nominations were in accordance with SRCI rules of incorporation and each nomination received the unanimous vote of the meeting.
Jamie made the following comments after the election:
“Might I take this opportunity to remark how highly I valued the relationship that developed between SRCI and the wider Stanley community and the Ovens and Murray Advertiser during my tenure as senior journalist and editor from October 2013 to February 2018.
Your organisation is both inspiration and model for the way in which a small community can work to define its aspirations and challenges and harness the interest and skills of people to maintain the elements of that vision and support its resolution.
In my role, I always believed it incumbent on the newspaper to give voice to a community that in so many ways, was working on what seemed to me a cohesive view – with few objectors – of its future when the rifts that often divide your larger, near neighbour are easier fodder.”
