Chestnuts on local ABC Radio
Listen to local ABC Radio on Thursday April 12th at 10am for a 20 minute program promoting chestnuts. Barbara Lowery, the food writer, will be interviewed by Joseph Thomsen.
It is perfect timing with the 2012 harvest well under way in Stanley. Barbara has been following chestnuts with a passion for almost 10 years since being introduced to them at Stanley. She will be promoting chestnuts as a low fat gluten-free carbohydrate food which has a low glycaemic index. You will find Barb is informed about chestnut varieties and creative with recipes. She will give Joseph a feed of chilli-garlic-salt roasted chestnuts done in olive oil. Yum! Unfortunately, it will be too early in the day for him to have a chestnut beer with the nuts from Ben Kraus’ Beechworth Brewery!
Barb will also be telling listeners that the Chestnuts Australia Inc industry association will have the open fire chestnut roaster (inspired by Italy) at the one day Beechworth Harvest Festival in the police paddocks on Sat May 19th; and that The Stanley Pub is putting on The Feast of the Chestnut dinner on Thursday May 24th at 6.30pm. ($95 head including Pennyweight Wines and Cheznuts products).
There is a mine of further information about the $10 million industry on the Chestnuts Australia Inc website:
